I once read the surrealists turned to dream-like scenes in pursuit of universal truths. I’m certainly not a surrealist but I think we share the same creed. My name is Victoria Castillo Abdallah. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised nowhere in particular. I’ve been trying to capture dazzling rooms and things ever since I can remember. Sometimes in writing but mostly in photographs. The surrealists learned there were no comforting myths. I won’t say that I agree. I’ve learned there can be if you frame them correctly. After all, it’s still a great big world, with lots of places to run to.

I collect old cameras. I’ve scoured E-bay and flea markets for the quirkiest lenses. Sometimes the present moment and the past collapse in calculated acts of apprehension. Here you can find some of my favorites.
